On foot from the station

From Empoli station to the front door: five minutes

Three hundred and fifty metres on the flat, on the pavement all the way, no stairs. With a wheeled suitcase you won't even think about it.

Distance from the station is the first thing people look for when they book for work, and the first thing they're let down by: “a stone's throw away” often means a kilometre and a half with your suitcase.

Here it's a real three hundred and fifty metres. You leave the station building, take Via dei Cappuccini and you're there. On the flat, well lit, with cafés and restaurants open in the evening along the way.

Why it matters

If you travel for work, five minutes on foot means no hire car, no taxi, and about half an hour saved every time you arrive and every time you leave. On a three-day trip that's an hour and a half of work, and one less item on the expense claim.

If you arrive late at night, it means not having to cross an unfamiliar town with your luggage. The last train from Florence gets to Empoli just after midnight: self check-in lets you in anyway, without telling anyone and at no extra charge.

If you're visiting Tuscany, it means you can use Empoli as a base and travel only by train, forgetting about the car and the car parks in the historic centres.
