Getting to Vinci
Leonardo's home town, without a car
Vinci is about ten kilometres from Empoli and you can get there on Autolinee Toscane route 49, which leaves from the station.
Vinci is where Leonardo was born, and the Museo Leonardiano is the reason people go: machines rebuilt from his drawings, the castle of the Conti Guidi, and his birthplace at Anchiano, just outside the town.
From Empoli station you get there on Autolinee Toscane route 49 (Empoli–Sovigliana–Crocifisso–Vinci). The stop is in the station square, three hundred and fifty metres from the building: you walk out of the front door and you're as good as at the stop.
